Valtteri Bottas bounced 🅘back from a disastr♉ous Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and worst start to an F1 season since joining Mercedes to claim his 17th career pole position at Portimao.
The Finn made Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton wait to sꦿecure his 100th F1 pole by topping qualifying for the first time in 2021, having pipped the seven-𒆙time world champion by just 0.007s.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was disappointed to only be third after having his first lap o🌠f Q3 - which would have been good enough for pole - deleted for track limits, before traffic ruined his final run.
Verstappen has Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez joining him on the second row of the grid, wh💛ile Carlos Sainz scored his best qualifying result since joining Ferrari in fifth.
