Team Information

Sauber's F1 involvement stretches over 30 years as they gear up for Audi's arrival in 2026, when they will becom✨e a works team.

Sauber in 2025

2025 will be Sauber’s final year without Audi’s full involvement. The Swiss-ba🌟sed team is desperate for an injection of new life after a torrid 2024 campaign💖, during which they scored just four points.

As a result, Sauber have an all-new driver line-up, with Nico Hülkenberg making a retur𝕴n. The German will be joined by reigning F2 champion Gabriel Bortoleto.

2025 will also see J🏅onathan Wheatley join the organisation as team principal, making the move from Red ജBull later this year.

Sauber's F1 History

Sauber have a rich hisꦆtory in F1, stretching back to the 1990s. Founded by Peter Sauber, the team made their debut at the 1993 South Afr💎ican Grand Prix. Throughout the ‘90s and into the 2000s, Sauber were a solid midfield outfit, often punching above their weight.

It wasn’t until 2006, when they joined forces with German car gi💦ant BMW, that they took a crucial step forward. Fifth in the constructors’ 🌄championship in 2006 was soon followed by second in 2007.

Robert Kubica claimed the team’s first and only victory at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. At this stage of the 2008 season, Kubica was in title contention with Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton. However, BMW mistakenly decided to focus their attention on 2009 and the major♉ rule changes.

This proved to be a disastrous decision as Kubica dropped off to ultimately finish fourth, while BMW struggled in 2009. The manufacturer eventually pulled out at the end of the season, meaning the team reverted to Sauber for 2010ღ.

The 2010s were t👍urbulent for the team, as Monisha Kaltenborn took over from Peter Sauber as CEO. Financial troubles left the team on the brink, with controversy erupting at the start of 2015 when four drivers were contracted to race for Sauber.

Longbow Finance effectively saved the team in 2016, headed by Swedish investor Finn Rausing. Alfa Romeo became the team’s title sponsor from 2019, with their best ✅finish coming in 2022 – securing sixth ove💧rall, their best result since 2012.
