Formula E says the “pioneering” camera technology, which is mounted on the protective padding inside the lining of drivers helmets, will provide fans w🀅ith a unique insight from behind the visor during race and "push the boundaries" of what is poss๊ible in sports broadcasting.
The FIA homolog🌼ated device was used for the first time during live coverage of last weekend’s Santiago E-Prix in Chile, marking a world's first across any FIA sanctioned single-seater championship.&ꦬnbsp;
According to Formula E, the FIA a𒈔nd teams undertook “many months" of research to fine-tune the device, which is 8 millimetres in diamet🥀er and weighs just 2.5 grams.
After a successful introduction, Formula E has confirmed it will continue to use the ‘Driver’s Eye’ camera at the 🔯next round at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City on February 15.
Speakingꦯ about the camera technology, Formula E digital head Sebastian Tiffert said: "When you speak to Formula E drivers, the first thing they highlight is the thrill and challenge of driving on city circuits.
“Driver’s Eye provides a new perspective from inside the helmet in live race conditions, showing the skill it takes to thread the car bet💛ween the walls while prไocessing data and communicating with the team at speed.
“Driver’s Eye adds a unique dimension to the v💙iewing experience and the innovative camera technology immerses fans in wheel-to-wheel racing.
“We are delighted to bring our fans closer 🌳to the drivers’ sensory experience and their engag🧔ement with Driver’s Eye content across social media demonstrates the value of innovations core to the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.”
Venturi’s Felipe Massa, who was one of the drivers who trialed the camera in Santiago, p💝raised the innovation, adding: "I think it is cool how Driver’s Eye shows fans exactly what I am seeing during a race in real time.
“It gi📖ves the viewers insight into the tight and challenging cit꧙y-centre circuits that we race on in Formula E and it demonstrates what drivers need to manage and control over the course of a race.
"I like technology like this, that brings fans even closer to the action. Driver’s Eye is a great way to show the work that♓ goes on behind the wheel."
