According to Doug Neubauer, AMA vice president of racing, the 2008 schedule was a collaborative effort created with the input of riders, race teams and the National Promoters G♏roup (NPG).

"We set out to accomplish several objectives when producing the schedule for next season," said Neubauer. "Included among those things was a tighter, more compact season, additional time off for the riders and teams between the end of the AMA Supercross Series and the beginnin⛄g of AMA Motocross, and an improved flow as the series travels around the nation."

The season will now start, rather than end, at Glen Helen in Southern California - on Memorial Day weekend - and conclude on the east coast on Labor Day weekend, both dates reco🌞gnised as the traditional beginning and end of the summer holiday season, respectively.

The Hangtown Motocross Classic from Sacramento has also been moved to avoid conflict with the AMA Superbike Championship event held at nearby Inf🐻ineon Raceway in Sonoma. According toꦉ AMA Racing, this change was the result of fan input.
