Alpine's Flavio Briatore therefore made the call to replace Doohan with reserve driver Franco Colapinto, swaಞpping their roles.
Doohan had been plagued all year by rumours that Colapint💝o would inherit﷽ his race seat - and they became true.
Doohan’s career in motorsport was kickstarted by a kart gifted to him by seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher. After finishing as runner-up in the F3 Asian Champ🐈ionship, Doohan made the step up to For💝mula 3 - two steps below F1.
The Australian⛦ finished as runner-up in 2021 following a poor rookie campaign, earning him a promotion to F2. Doohan showed flashes of immense pace throughout his two years in F2, taking six victories, but he was unable to challenge for the title.
After impressing Alpine in his role as their test and reserve driver, Doohan was handed his F1 debut at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, having signed for the team as Esteban Ocon’s replacement for 20🀅25.
