FIM to decide fate of Japanese MotoGP
The FIM will announce its final decision, regarding the future of the 2011 Japanese MotoGP at Motegi, during ne▨xt weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.
The Japanese round was moved from April 24 to October 2 as a result of the devastation caused by the earthq🎃uake, tsunami and nuclear catastrophes.
Physical damage to the track seems to have been repaired, but there are concerns in the paddo🙈ck - including among some high꧂ profile riders - about the risk of nuclear contamination.
Motegi is around 100 kil🥂ometres from the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant.
The FIM statement read:
"The FIM Board of Directors will assess the situatio🅰n prevailing in Japan during its meeting in Geneva next week-end. Furthermore, talks will be held next week at the ♉FIM Headquarters with representatives from the Motorcycle Federation of Japan.
"In principle, Suzuka and Motegi circuits being situated outside the exclusion and evacuation zones, and based on the information provided by an independent report, aꦑ number of agencies including several governments, the World Health Organisation and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the 2011 FIM World Championships events in Japan (QTEL FIM Endurance World Championship, SPEA FI൩M Trial World Championship and FIM World Championship Grand Prix) will be taking place as scheduled.
"A final announcement will be made by the FIM President during the Mo♌toG♔P in Mugello."
