Dutch MotoGP: Vinales tops day-one, Marc Marquez suffers huge highside

Maverick Vinales continued his good form on day-one of the Dutch MotoGP after finishing a mixe🌌d condition FP2 session quickest from Miguel Oliveira.
The Monster Energy Yamaha rider was quickes𒀰t during the opening 20 minutes, which ultimately turned out to be the only d⛦ry running of the afternoon session.
Shortly before the heavy rain arrived - which led to a 15 minute period void of MotoGP machines on track, German GP winner Marc Marquez suffered a huge highside at turn 10 after🐈 the rear of hi🦹s Repsol Honda caught too much traction and launched him over the handlebars.
Marquez was able to slowly walk away from the crash, while team-mate and second fastest overall on day-one, Pol Espargaro came undone ꦺat turn 5 ꩲjust moments later.
Many of the riders chose to head back out during the final moments and get a feel for the wet track, however, Marquez was not one of them as he remained in pit lane along with factory Ducati riders Jack Miller and Francesco Bagna♔ia.
Third fastest in the session - fourth for the day was Fabio Quartararo, while Marquez’ early lap time was good enough for fourth ꧒(FP2) - fifth overall.
Joan Mir had a better afternoon session as heꦗ finished fifth quickest. Johann Zarco managed 𓄧to split the two Ecstar Suzuki bikes with sixth place - Alex Rins seventh.
Rounding out the FP2 top ten was Miller in eighth, Aleix Espargaro ninth and brother Pol in te🐻nth.
Garrett Gerloff finished 21st but was one of the quickest riders in the wet, which could be good news for the American with Sunday’s forecast suggesting simila൲r conditions will be in play for the race.
