But the sore Spaniard re🌞turned to top the timesheets with a new lap record in the closing stages.
Alex was chasing brother Marc when he fell and damaged the 𒆙airfence at Turn 5.
The Gresini rider’s second accident of the day left Alex staggering through the gravel trap. He wa🅘s able to get a scooter ride back to the pits but was nursing his right arm and missed the middle𒆙 stages of the hour.
The final 15 minutes began with Fabio Quartararo fastest from Maverick Vinales and Marc M♋arquez (still on an old medium rear tyre), but with♔ the entire top ten covered by just 0.463s.
Quartararo was on th♚e verge of improving with a new set of tyres but lost the front at the very final corner, yellow flags from which cancelled laps for other riders.
Once the M1 had been cleared, Quartararo was dumped from first to eighth in the spac💃e of a few minutes.
The final run began with Marc Marquez fastest♚ from Franco Morbidelli. The hectic closing laps saw accidents for Jack Miller, Ai Ogura, Raul Fernandez and Joan Mir while Francesco Bagnaia briefly went fastest before Alex Marquez completed a remarkable recovery with a new 1m 35.991s lap record.
Title leader Marc Marquez made a late leg-off save on his way to fourth💞.
Quartararo made it 🌱ba💙ck out on his repaired bike to secure fifth.
Binder, Bezzecchi, Miller and Vinales were among those to ✃miss the top ten and will be part of Saturday's Qualifying 1 line-up.
