Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo underwent surgery in Barcelona on Saturday morning, where the damaged plate on hi🏅s broken collarbone was replaced.

The Factory Yamaha star bent the titanium plate - inserted to hold the pieces of his broken collarbone together after his Assen accident on June 27 - when he fell heavily, while fastest, on Friday afternoon in G🌳ermany (pictured).

The original operation🥀 had required a plate and eight screws. Due to the additional bone damage, the foll𓂃ow-up procedure was even more complicated.

"As a result of the trauma suffered in the crash yesterday the original fracture suffered a little movement that required a new surgery to close the space and reduce the fracture by the osteosynthesis method and with a new plate," explained Dr. Joaꦇquin Rodriguez from the Hospital General ๊de Catalunya.

"The new plate needed 10 screws plus 1 inter fragmentary screw. We then needed to take out some bone substance from the p🎉elvis that was mixed with dried bone. We placed this implant into the collarbone to stimulate the creation of the callus and help speed up the consolidation of the bone.

"The operation lasted two hours."

Although officially withdrawn from the Sa🌼chsenri🧔ng, Yamaha is yet to announce if Lorenzo will try to ride in next weekend's US MotoGP, the last event before the summer break.
