Despite having escaped serious injury in his savage meeting with the barriers on the exit of the tunnel in Monaco, Sergio Perez will spend a second night in hospital as doctors ensure that he makes༺ a full recovery from concussion.

The Mexican rookie slammed into the Tecpro barriers at the entrance to the waterfront chicane after losing control over a bump aꩲs he exited the tunnel, and qualifying was held up for half an hour as he was assessed and extracted from the cockpit. Despite a worrying time for those looking on from the pits, the GP2 Series runner-up was reported to be lucid and talking to medical teams as he was transported to the local hospital, where his injuries were confirmed as little more than concussion and a bruised thigh🅺.

Howev♍er, the team has since confirmed that, having spent a good night at the Hospital Princesse Grace and undergoing further medical examination on Sunday morning, doctors have requested that Perez remain under observation for another night before having a 𒊎second brain scan on Monday.

Sauber has also said that it will conduct its own investigation into the cause of the accident, desp🃏ite Perez appearing to have been pitched into the barriers by a bump in the road between the tunnel and the chicane. However, it is the fact that the 21-year old Mexican exited the tunnel on an exceptionally wide line that is of concern to the team, especially as the lack of grip off-line, amid the dust and 'marbles', could have contributed to the accident.
