Paddock wisdom has the Scot remaining with the Red Bull Racing team that offered him a home after his McLaren contract ended two seasons ago, despite rumours linking him to a possible Ferrari seat alongside Michael Schumacher at mid-season. DC and Red Bull have managed to spur each other on and, although 2006 is proving to be a tougher proposition than their first season together, everything points to another year together, with speculation falling on the identity of the♕ Scot's team-mate.
"I will continue to be a race driver next season, and hope that we'll be in a position to confirm that in the near future," he told ltxcn.top shortly after stepping 🌱from his race car at a Silverstone promotional event.
"We're behind where we were this time last year. We've achieved a podium, which was the goal for this second season for Red Bull Racing, but we'v𓄧e scored less points. Obviously, it was great for Christian [Klien] and the team to score another point at the weekend, especially as that keeps us a little bit ahead of Williams in the championship, and that puts things into perspective. Williams is a world championship-winni🌳ng team, so it shows just how difficult and competitive it is.
"Monza should be difficult for us because it is a high-speed performance track and we don't really have good top speeds, but Budapestꦅ and Turkey should be similar to what we've seen recently. If we can make it through into the final ten in qualifying, that will be a good achievement for the team, because you've got to be in front of a Williams or a BMW Sauber to achieve that. It's very competitive and, with six races to go, the goal is just to keep notching points on the board."
Asked if he could reveal which powerplant he would hav꧟e behind him should the RBR deal be confirmed, Coulthard played the tact ca🐽rd lest he upset either current partner Ferrari or mooted 2007 supplier Renault.
"I think that Renault has a very solid package this year," he said cagily, "Clearly, Ferrari and Renault have done the lions' share of winning, so either of them, on paper, would appear to be a good option. We currently have the Ferrari engine, but are clearly not making as good use of it as the main te🔥am, but the [engine situation] is something that will be discussed at management 💃level to try and find the best way forward, especially if there is going to be an engine freeze in the future."
